PHASE 2
2026
World Record Attempt: Greatest distance travelled in open water using a diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) in one month.
Shaff’s updated expedition now runs from Kuredu Resort in Lhaviyani Atoll down to Vaavu Atoll, with all world‑record distances achieved within this central atoll chain. The route focuses on high‑impact diving days across multiple key atolls, condensed into an intensive two‑and‑a‑half‑week window.
Updated route
Starting at Kuredu Resort in Lhaviyani Atoll, the expedition will now travel south through Lhaviyani, Ari, North and South Malé, Vaavu, and potentially Baa Atoll, depending on conditions and support. The full target distance for the two world record attempts will be accumulated across these atolls rather than from the absolute northern to southern borders of the country.
Schedule and dive profile
The team plans to complete the route in a maximum of two and a half weeks, maintaining a schedule of two to three dives per day, including selected night dives. Each dive is planned to cover at least 10 to 15 kilometres or more using Diver Propulsion Vehicles, enabling long-range underwater transits while keeping within safe operational limits.
Reason for route change
Due to limited logistical backing from local resorts and businesses, the expedition has been redesigned around a more compact but still world‑class route starting from Kuredu and ending in Vaavu. This adjustment keeps the record distances and storytelling focus intact while aligning the project with the level of support currently available.
MINIMUM DISTANCE: 460 KM
